Credentials and Medical background

 

Izak Frederick Wessels

B.Sc., M.B.B.Ch., D.C.H., Dip.Mid.C.O.G.,

F.R.C.S.(Edin.), M.Med.(Wits.),

F.R.C.Ophth., F.A.C.S.

 

Dr Wessels is an Associate Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology of the Chattanooga Unit of the College of Medicine of the University of Tennessee.  Izak has authored more than 30 scientific research articles  published in the peer reviewed professional literature and has developed new instruments for eye care, including an optical system to improve retina surgery that bears his name.

 

Dr Wessels has actually completed two residencies in ophthalmology, a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease, and is fully certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.  He is also a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEdin), the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of England (FRCOphth), and the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
