Dr. Matzkin was trained as a neuro-opthalmologist by Ron Burde, MD in New York, and has experience with patients who suffer from headaches.

The question most patients and their doctors ask is whether the headache is caused by glasses or other eye conditions:

Incorrect eyeglass prescription

An incorrect eyeglass prescription may cause eyestrain and fatigue but not true headaches. Often a dilated exam with a dilated refraction is required to rule out an incorrect eyeglass prescription.

Swollen Optic Nerve

Headache associated with a swollen optic nerve can indicate elevated pressure in the head and requires an urgent brain scan to rule out tumor, or blood vessel malformations.

Sinus Congestion

Sinus congestion is probably one of the most common causes of headache. Patients often feel a pressing sensation over their forehead or under their eyes.

Migraine Headaches

Migraine headaches come in various forms and can often be diagnosed with an accurate history.

Occipital Neuralgia

Headache radiating forward from base of the skull, is called occipital neuralgia. Patients may localize the source of the headache with a finger. Dr. Matzkin has had excellent results treating this condition with a localized steroid injection. This is where the occipital nerve exits the brain, becomes irritated and caused the classic headache pattern.
